Free Pattern: Easy Garter Stitch Shawl

designed by Sheila Macdonald
This shawl is VERY easy to knit, and the simple garter stitch will showcase any colorful, funky, handspun, or otherwise fanatstic yarn! This variation of a garter stitch shawl features a slipped-stitch upper edge and a fringed lower edge.
Yarn: I used Fiesta Yarns' La Boheme yarn in the "Australia" colorway, 2 skeins (4 ounces,165 yards each skein). La Boheme
is made up of 2 strands-one is a thin kid mohair/wool and the other a rayon boucle. You could substitute with 400
yards of any heavier worsted or lighter bulky weight yarn.

Hi Sheila. Thank you for posting your pattern. I love the size and shape of your shawl - looks like a great choice for La Boheme yarn.

Nice pattern, thanks for sharing it. I've been looking into shawl shaping and this seems to be one that doesn't come up too much -- if I'm reading it correctly, the bind-off edge are the two shorter sides of the triangle, and the start and end of each row are stitches that end up on the upper, long end of the triangle ?
The color is lovely, too -- nice yarn choice!
I've been looking for a shawl pattern just like this but want to use smaller stitches and needles. Maybe an 8. Do you think I'll need more yarn than your pattern calls for?
